| In her native New York, Betty was a
commercial artist for five years, before taking time out to raise her
family. She began exhibiting fine art when her children were
young, first in Chicago and later in Indianapolis. She
taught art classes once her youngest was in school. She also
worked as a watercolor artist with the Metropolitan Arts Council of
Indianapolis for three years. Betty and her family lived in
Columbus, Indiana for 25 years, before returning to Indianapolis.
Betty had a large studio in Columbus where she taught painting classes.
She stressed that painting, like any other talent, gets better with
practice. Betty told her students that if they could make an
appointment with a dentist or a hairdresser, they could make an
appointment with themselves to do something that they enjoy. She
is proud that many of her students are now her competition.

envies artists with a particular style. Betty has even done
