Items of Interest about Jean Coval Garro

Jean worked for Univis, Inc, an optical manufacturer, for fourteen years, first as a promotional and technical writer and then as a designer of eyeglass frames.  When the  company headquarters moved from Dayton, Ohio to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Jean moved with them.  She met her husband, Frank, when he became International Sales Director for the same company.  Jean attended annual sales meetings, often held in distant locals.  One such meeting took Jean to Puerto Rico.  She added a two week vacation and island hopped back to the states.  After Jean retired from Univis, she accompanied Frank on many of his travels.  They visited Europe, Israel, Mexico and Central America and were on the last ship through the Panama Canal while it was under U. S. control.

Jean has painted in both watercolors and oils.  She says she has always enjoyed painting in oils and now uses this medium exclusively.  Jean does her own framing and prefers the ease of framing oils.  Jean is one of the artists in Hoosier Painters of the 21st Century.  She was honored to be included with some of her mentors and proudly displays this book on her coffee table, along with a copy of Painting Indiana.

Jean has always been interested in art and wanted to be an artist.  Her mother attended John Herron School of Art and, although he had no formal training, her father was able to draw and did some carving as well.  Jean's house has a comfortable mix of her own work and the paintings and pottery of other Indiana artists.  A carved wooden sculpture from Haiti is also part of her collection.
