Amanda lives in the home originally
owned by Marie Goth. The log cabin started its life as a church.
Marie had it moved to its present site in the 1940s. Marie had
left the house to The Art Guild when she died. It was purchased
and renovated and put back on the market. Amanda was hesitant to
look at the house as she had been Marie's friend and was afraid it might
make her sad. The renovation had changed the house enough that the
happy memories outweighed the sad. Marie's door plaque had been
destroyed, but Amanda had a photograph of the two of them by the door
and was able to have a new plaque carved. Plaque on the house now owned by Amanda Kirby |
| Amanda was a close friend of Marie Goth.
V. J. Cariani lived down the hill from Marie. Amanda remembers
sitting for a portrait in the corner of Marie's front room. Marie
painted while Cariani observed over her shoulder. Occasionally
Cariani would critique the painting, "This isn't quite right" or "You
should change this." Marie would turn and sweetly say, "I'll get
to it in a minute, Cari" but never changed a thing.

Amanda has a collection of blue and
white porcelain. The collection includes a ginger jar that had
belonged to Marie Goth and may be seen in some of her paintings. A
friend of Amanda saw it in an auction and thought it needed to go home.
