Items of Interest about Lois Brown Sinnett

Lois says that her husband, Dick is her photographer and greatest supporter.  For many years, she and Dick traveled to art fairs, including Talbot Street art fair, the Penrod art fair on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Broad Ripple art fair and the Chicago art fair in old town.  Now they prefer traveling the back roads of Indiana, or visiting their children and grandchildren.

Lois has been interested in drawing and painting since she was very young.  Her talented sister taught Lois to draw her own paper dolls and this led to an interest in figure drawing.  Lois majored in art in high school and received a Gold Key Award, which included a scholarship to take Saturday classes at John Herron School of Art.  Later she was also able to take a figure class at Herron.  Lois taught art classes in her home for many years, before going to work for Eli Lilly and Company where she did secretarial work and accounting.  She retired after 17 years and is now able to paint whenever she chooses.

Tools of the trade

Lois and Dick enjoy traveling around Indiana and they always have a camera ready.  Most of their photographs are taken in state parks because it is no longer easy to "just pull off" by the side of the road.  Lois also keeps a sketch pad handy and often makes sketches of scenery that intrigues her.   She even makes notes and sketches around the borders of the photographs and always has plenty of ideas for future paintings.
