Items of Interest about Bonita Snellenberger

Bonita's husband, Earl, admits that he fell in love with her art, before he fell in love with Bonita.  While a student at John Herron School of Art, one of Bonita's assignments was to design a container for alphabet blocks.  Her design was a rocking horse with a hinged seat.  Earl was teaching part time at Herron and remembers seeing the horse and thinking how clever it was.  He also admired Bonita's paintings, but had never met her.  When a friend backed out of an overseas trip, Bonita signed up for a European tour that was sponsored by the University of Indianapolis, where Earl was teaching.  Earl met Bonita on that tour.  When their group came home from the travel-study trip, Earl asked to take Bonita on a date.

Bonita sometimes visits New Harmony, Indiana to plein air paint.  One of her subjects was a wall around the granary.  Her grandfather had built the wall many years ago.  When he was in his seventies, he was asked to restore the wall.  It took two years, but he was able to make the repairs.

Bonnie and Earl make their home on 30 acres outside of Martinsville, Indiana.  Their house was once a barn and the hay loft is now a bedroom.  They are slowly renovating the structure with recycled windows and doors from demolished buildings.  They even have an altar wall from a monastery.   Bonita heard about a couple taking bids on a log cabin from the 1800's and she and Earl made an offer.  When the offer was accepted, they brought the cabin back to their property where it sat on a hill until they were able to get relatives to help them attach it to their house.  It is now the living room of their eclectic residence.
