Items of Interest about Arlyne Springer

A look around the Springer home is all it takes to know how important family is to Arlyne and her husband, Steve.  They have three children and three grandchildren, but each room has photos or other memories.  Arlyne feels blessed to look after one grandchild a few days each week.  The other two grandchildren are located in the Chicago area, a long way to travel for a dance recital, but not too far for dedicated grandparents.

Family Photographs

Arlyne has lived in the Indianapolis area all of her life, and her family heritage in Indiana goes back over 150 years.  She is proud of this legacy and finds that it has become an integral part of her work.  Arlyne creates historical images that are "expressions inspired from family mementos, photographs and stories."  She says, "I use these keepsakes to blend history, memory and emotion into an idea and attempt to honor and reveal the past as well as comment on our current times."

Little Girl - 6 x 9 - Intaglio

Arlyne's visual interest lies in two series, that of family history narratives and abstraction.  In her abstractions, Arlyne is "focused on exploring line, color, shape, gesture and design."  She balances these elements to create the mood she seeks.
