Jack and Hattie Stanton were married in
1962. They raised two daughters. Debbie is now a
veterinarian in Virginia and Wendy is a CPA in Indianapolis. They
also have three grandsons; Jesse, Joseph and Daniel. Pieces of
their lives have been captured on their gallery wall. This
oversized bulletin board is covered with children's artwork, cut-out
handprints, campaign buttons, and photographs of family and friends.
More photos are on a kitchen door and the refrigerator is home to an
occasional grandchild's painting. The Stanton Gallery Wall |
| Each year, Hattie and her younger
grandsons make a Christmas project. Last year she bought track and
train engines at a dollar store. She glued and staples the flimsy
track to the outside of plywood form and let the boys decorate tiny
trees in the center. This year Hattie is making a village.
She has created
small cardboard houses, buildings and a church. These will be
painted and decorated with realistic roofing and walls. The church
is just the right scale for pea gravel to act as stone siding.
Hattie is also planning to add a slate roof. One of the houses is a replica of Hattie's childhood home in Kentucky.

For a few years Hattie made "Hattie
Bears." She has always loved bears and was inspired by a stuffed
bear that her daughter, Debbie sent as a Christmas gift. Everyone
has had a moment when they thought "I could do that." Unlike most
people, Hattie actually does it. She made bears for family and
friends and repaid Debbie with a large, standing "Hattie Bear" named
Longwood. It was a graduation present when Debbie graduated from Longwood
College.
