More Items of Interest about Carol Strock-Wasson

Carol admits that she is not organized about a lot of things, but her pastels are the exception.  She has a log of the colors with "swatches" and a reference number for each hue.  Carol began using pastels because her boys were young and she needed something that could be used without preparation and put down without clean up.  The same pigments that are used to make oil paints are used to make pastels.  Pastels are a permanent medium that will never fade crack or darken with age.  When Carol is using her pastels, they are separated by value in shoeboxes of cornmeal to keep them clean.

Carol occasionally works in oils.  She has also begun experimenting with mixed media; pastels over an oil wash and splotches of oils on pastels for a different texture and intensity.  Carol says, "It doesn't matter what you paint, but what you feel about what you paint.  I have a strong feeling for everything I paint."

Carol enjoys plein air painting and will often meet with friends for a day, or evening, of painting in the open air.  Her subjects include farms and parks, streams and bridges, city streets and country lanes; but mostly Midwestern locations.  That will soon change as Carol joins other artists on a trip to Ireland.  Carol is looking forward to new horizons to view and paint.
