Items of Interest about Leah Traugott

Leah and her husband, Harry, have traveled extensively.  They have been to Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Spain, Portugal and France.  Leah said they had been to Paris a number of times before they saw the rest of France. On one trip to Paris, Harry took a picture of the bird market.  Later, Leah was inspired to paint the scene.  Their first trip to Mexico came about because their son, Joe, was to do an archeological dig with the Chicago Field Museum.  The dig was in Vernon, Arizona and Mexico didn't look to be that much further.  They have visited many times since.  Leah says Harry is adventurous.  Because of this, they have taken week long camping trips to the Southwest and have been river rafting on the Colorado River.

One of the Trips the Traugott family took was to the Temple at Tuloom in Mexico.  When Channel 20 was having an auction, Leah saw a print of The Temple at Tuloom  by Frederick Catherwood.  Since they had seen the Temple and also had a book with a photograph that looked nearly like the print, Leah called up to bid.  The bidding ended before her offer could be entered.  She wanted the piece so much that later she called Channel 20 to see if they could have the buyer contact her.  She thought he might consider selling.  She was told that the bidder had never paid for nor contacted them about the piece, so she was able to buy it after all.

Leah was at Blocks department store in downtown Indianapolis, doing a tour with the Hoosier Salon, when a lady approached her.  She said that Leah didn't know her, but that she had been a roommate of Leah's second grade teacher, Miss Barton, some years before.  Leah's teacher had recently passed away and in her belongings was a picture that Leah had drawn.  Harry made a trip to the south side of Indianapolis to pick up this treasure.  Leah said that Miss Barton had been one of her favorite teachers.  Leah must have been one of Miss Barton's favorite students as well.
