More Items of Interest about Leah Traugott

Leah works mostly in watercolor, but that has not always been the case.  When she was younger she did much of her work in oils.  She didn't have a studio at the time, so the house often smelled like turpentine and oil paint.  She decided to try watercolor and has primarily used that medium ever since.  Leah has taught watercolor and pastel at the Indianapolis Art Center for over thirty years and was honored as Outstanding Instructor of the year 2000.  She is a past president of the Indiana Artist Club, a Cardinal Member of Indiana Watercolor Society, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Art Center and served three terms as an appointed visual artist panelist of the Indiana Arts Commission.  Leah has had forty-one one person shows and has received eighty-seven awards in juried exhibitions.

Prismatic Paper by Joe Traugott

No biography of Leah, would be complete without mention of her daughter, Dale and son, Joe.  Dale taught sculpture at Herron School of Art and is now a sculptor with a studio in North Carolina.  Joe is Curator of Twentieth Century Art at the Santa Fe Museum of Fine Arts in New Mexico.

 Wooden Sculpture - 24 x 20 x 36, by Dale Ellen Traugott

When she needed something for a large wall in their first apartment, Leah painted this copy of a Persian print.  This six foot by four foot piece was completed in a week.  It was adapted from a miniature that is about one and a half by two inches.  Leah's house contains artwork done by Dale and Joe as well as her own fine art.  There are also many souvenirs from places she and Harry have visited.
