Alice is not only a sculptor and
a painter, but also a published author. She wrote a book
based on memories of a summer trip taken to the south of France when she
was eleven. Alice was picturing a sundial, when she thought, "I mark
none but the sunny
hours." This inspired the title of the book, Sunny
Hours. Alice also has three stories published in Rush
Hour, a collection of short stories about a reading program for
children in the inner-city.
Stories by Alice Usher |
| Alice has fond memories of travels with
her family. She recalls the summer that her husband, Roland was on
sabbatical and he and Alice traveled to Europe with their four children.
They visited Italy, Sicily, France, England, and Scotland.
They did quite a bit of camping and bought a Fiat in Naples. It
had six seats so they could fit the family inside and pack tents and
sleeping bags on top. Alice also lived in a flat in London for a
year. It was there that she began to create her fabric art.
Bits of fabric and embroidery became pictures of London flats or
street scenes.
