More Items of Interest about David Woodson

In David's first exhibition in Indiana Heritage Arts, he won the Carl Graf Memorial Award.  Before he began painting, David researched color and tone.  He studied American impressionism, focusing on light and its incorporation into realism.  David says that he is most inspired by that "feeling when you know everything is going right."  He admits that when that feeling strikes he may paint for days without stopping to eat or sleep.

David rents a studio on the third floor of a building in downtown Muncie.  David has an ongoing exhibit at the Blue Bottle Coffee Shop in downtown Muncie.  There is a frame just for his work and each month he changes the painting.  Above the door of David's studio is a copy of a plaque that hung above Karl Jung's entry.  It says "Bidden or unbidden, God is present."    This helps David to remember that there is a greater power at work.

David enjoys plein air painting and often accompanies his father, Dan Woodson, and uncle, Tom Woodson to paint-outs.  Like his dad, David paints on unstretched, primed canvas.  This gives him the freedom to paint whenever and where ever he wants.  David likes to find lighting that glows; that type of light when the sun comes out after a thunderstorm.  David's son, David is not yet a teenager but also likes to join the rest of his family on plein air outings.
